Life & work
From engineering to Radio Tehran
Azimi grew up in a musical family, taught himself piano and studied classical guitar with Bagher Moazen. After studying and working in engineering in Tehran and the United Kingdom, he shifted his focus to music in his early thirties. His official biography connects that change to “33” on Mr. Mean and “Tatilat” on Radio Tehran’s 88.4
Mr. Mean (2013) marked a change in both billing and collaborators: it was recorded under Azimi’s own name, outside Iran, with a new, non-Iranian band.65 That shift does not give Radio Tehran a clear end date. In a 1392 Solar Hijri interview with Rooz, Azimi described the band as an unfinished, open project; his official biography now calls it his former band.74
Solo albums
Ezzat Ziad followed in 2016.8 For Of Love and Other Evils, Azimi built a concept album around the cycle of a relationship, with each song exploring a phase. His SoundCloud description credits a collaboration with nineteen musicians and dates the release to 2 October 2019; Apple Music gives 1 October.910 Kahrobaye Arezou followed on 25 May 2022.11
Songs and collaborators
On “Marze Por Gohar”, Azimi wrote the music and lyrics, Golshifteh Farahani receives featured billing, and Peyman Salimi is credited with production and arrangement.12 “Khooneye Bahar” sets words by Omran Salahi to Azimi’s music. Its official video credits Salar Khosrojerdi and Ali Bros with production, Ali Bros with keyboards and backing vocals, Patrick Jackman and Charlotte Van Passen with brass, Shayan Fathi with drums and percussion, and Azimi with guitar.13 Azimi dedicated the video to the passengers of flight PS752.14
“Dige Vaghtesh Resideh” pairs Azimi’s music and words with production and mixing by Faarjam Saidi, mastering by Oli Morgan at Abbey Road Studios, and a video by Majed Neisi. Its official release carries the Woman, Life, Freedom and Mahsa Amini hashtags.15
