Balzan (Persian: بالزن) is an indie electro-rock duo of singer Amir Balafshan and Nima Ramezan, its songwriter, composer and guitarist.5 The band's Telegram channel was presenting the two of them under that name by April 2018.6 Its lyrics come from the poetry of Nosrat Rahmani: every poem on the debut album is his,7 and later songs adapt his poems as well.89

The debut album, also called Balzan, was launched on Friday 3 Esfand 1397 (22 February 2019) at Sam Center, in the Hoom institute.12 Its publisher, Javan, presented it on its own channel as a work of the band and named both members.13 A few days after the launch the band announced that the album was out, with a link to the BeepTunes store,14 which dates it to Esfand 1397.15
The band later wrote that the two of them had put more than a year and a half into the album, and that it had been launched in Tehran and Isfahan.16 Their credits name Rahmani for the poems, Arash Pakzad for mixing and mastering, Hamid Khosrobeigi (حمید خسروبیگی) as producer, and Javan as publisher and distributor.16 A third launch followed in Rasht, where the band played بوی کهنه مهتاب.17 On the album's first anniversary the band wrote that it was working on new songs.18
